Financial Aid for Study Abroad
Texas State offers a variety of study abroad destinations to students of all majors and areas of interest. If you are interested in a study abroad program, you should first visit with the Study Abroad Office. Once you have selected a program, it is important that you are prepared financially to travel overseas. For possible assistance in covering some of the costs, you may want to consider applying for financial aid.
Applying for Financial Aid
Eligibility for Financial Aid
Processing of Aid
Once we receive your completed study abroad documents from the Study Abroad Office, and once your financial aid file is complete with our office, we will begin the processing of your financial aid. The processing of your application (including determining your program costs and awarding you any aid for which you are eligible) may take four to six weeks. Once you have been awarded financial aid, we will send you an email notification.
Important Note: Please keep in mind that completing the financial aid process does not guarantee you a financial aid award. It is your responsibility to provide the necessary funds to cover your program costs.
Disbursement of Aid
The financial aid disbursement process for study abroad programs is the same as for courses taken on campus. The only exception is for federal student loans. These loans will be disbursed in two installments during the semester. Half of your semester loan funds will be disbursed at the beginning of the semester (once you reach half-time status), and the other half at the mid-point of the semester. Study Abroad Scholarship
The International Education Fee Scholarship is offered to students studying abroad. For more information, please visit the Study Abroad Office.
