Scholarship Workshop

WorkshopWelcome to the Scholarship Workshops page sponsored by TG and Texas State. In order to better prepare Texas high school students to compete for academic scholarships, our staff is conducting workshops throughout the state. In the first several months of this program nearly 3,000 high school students have benefited from our sessions.

Sponsored by a grant from TG and an in-kind gift from the College Board, these workshops help students, parents, faculty and counselors become more educated about how to develop a competitive scholarship application. The workshops address such topics as:

  • Developing a résumé that truly attests to the student’s achievements, honors, work experience, extracurricular activities, leadership and other accomplishments.
  • Writing a compelling essay that conveys something unique about the student and increases that student’s ability to compete for scholarships.
  • Securing letters of recommendation that make a real difference in how selection committees view the student.

In addition, the workshops emphasize the need for students to also apply for financial aid. By submitting applications for both scholarships and financial aid, students will be able to maximize the amount of money they will receive to help pay for college. By planning ahead, meeting deadlines and taking the time to develop an outstanding scholarship application, college is possible for all students regardless of financial need.
