The following is a representation of the types of scholarships Texas State offers to transfer students. These transfer scholarships are awarded competitively and require the submission of a scholarship application. To apply for transfer scholarships, you must complete and submit a scholarship application--including an essay of your choice. The scholarship application and essay topic (i.e., A, B, C, D or E) are available via ApplyTexas at www.applytexas.org. You must submit all documents and be admitted to Texas State no later than March 1, 2015.

Awards are based on the overall strength of your scholarship application. For information regarding scholarships awarded by your college or academic department, be sure to contact the appropriate dean and/or chair’s office.


Transfer Scholarships


Annual Award

Eligibility Criteria

Terry Foundation Transfer Scholarship 

(Number of new annual awards varies)

  • Competitively awarded based on scholastic and leadership ability
  • Financial need (complete FAFSA by March 15)
  • Enroll minimum 12 hrs./sem.
  • At least 21 years of age on May 1 of year in which application is submitted
  • U.S. citizen and Texas resident
  • Current continuous Resident of Texas for at least 3 years at the time of application *
  • Admitted as incoming non-freshman transfer student in upcoming fall term
  • Complete 30 minimum transferrable, post high school credit at a Texas college or university at the time of the application deadline (March 15) **   

* “Current” means a resident of the State of Texas at the time the application is submitted. Active Duty does not count against continuous residence.

** The 30 hour requirement must be earned in residence and may not include high school dual credit. Online courses will only count if you were in residence at the University the hours were taken at.

Renewable for eligible recipients up to three years of undergraduate study.

Alumni Scholarship**

$1,000 - $1,500

  • 2.5 GPA
  • Parent, grandparent, sibling or other relative who has attended Texas State

Athena Scholarship for Women


  • 2.5 GPA
  • Financial need
  • Female
  • Single
  • Custody of at least one dependent who is 17 years of age or younger

Lunelle A. Anderson Scholarship


  • 3.0 GPA

Martha St. Clair (Phi Theta Kappa) Scholarship


  • 3.0 GPA
  • Graduate from a two-year college

*Beginning with the 2014-2015 academic year, award increased to $12,500 per year.
**Scholarship award amounts vary from year to year.

  • Any scholarship or combination of scholarships awarded by Texas State cannot exceed the cost of attendance.
