Qualifications for Terry Foundation Scholarship Incoming Transfers
The Terry Transfer Scholarship is awarded to non-traditional students who are transferring to Texas State from a Texas community college or university and are working toward their first baccalaureate degree. This substantial scholarship covers 65% of a student’s cost of attendance ($15,000 - $16,000 per year) and is renewable for up to three years of undergraduate study. These students are selected from a highly competitive pool of incoming transfers who have excelled in academics, demonstrated leadership and have financial need.
To be considered for the Terry Transfer Scholarship, applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Academic Achievement
Applicants must exhibit strong academic abilities (minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA)
- Demonstrated Leadership
Applicants must have a record of leadership in school and in the community
- Financial Need
Applicants must demonstrate financial need, as evidenced by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on October 1 or soon after
- 20 Years or Older
Applicants must be at least 20 years of age on May 1 of the year in which the application is submitted
- Citizenship and Residency
Applicants must meet U.S. and Texas residency and citizenship requirements sufficient to qualify for in-state tuition and for federal financial aid assistance
- Texas Residency*
Applicants must be current, continuous residents of the State of Texas for at least 3 years at the time of application
- Transferable Credits**
Applicants must have completed at least 30 hours of transferable, post-high school credit in residence at a Texas college or university by the end of the spring 2020 semester
- College Admission
Applicants must have been granted admission to Texas State University for the summer or fall immediately following the application deadline. They must be admitted as a full-time Transfer student, for the purpose of completing a first baccalaureate degree. In addition, an applicant who has previously interviewed for a Terry Scholarship and was not selected, whether as a traditional or transfer applicant, is not thereafter eligible for a Terry Scholarship. An applicant who is currently attending, or has previously attended a Terry-affiliated university will not be considered for a Terry Foundation Transfer Scholarship.
*"Current" means a resident of the State of Texas at the time the application is submitted. Active Duty does not count against continuous residence.
**The 30 hour requirement must be earned while attending a Texas college or university and may not include high school dual credit or AP credit. Online courses will only count if you were physically attending the college or university at which the hours were completed.
How to Apply (Transfer Students)
To apply for admission, begin with the ApplyTexas Application and select Texas State University as your first-choice University. To apply for competitive transfer scholarships, you must submit a Texas State scholarship application via the Bobcat Online Scholarship System (BOSS). You must be admitted to Texas State and complete the scholarship application via BOSS, for the incoming summer or fall semester, no later than March 1, prior to your first summer/fall semester.
If your competitive scholarship application meets initial eligibility criteria for the Terry Transfer Scholarship, you will be able to apply for it in BOSS once it is listed under your Recommended scholarships under the Opportunities tab.

- Submit all applications and documents and be admitted to Texas State University by March 1
If you are selected as a potential Terry candidate, you will be contacted by the Foundation to participate in a personal interview. The Terry Foundation selects the recipients of the scholarship at the conclusion of the interview process.
